Solo mining means playing for the whole jackpot. FindMyBlock is the solo pool I built: here is how it works and how to point your machine at it.

1. Solo or regular pool?

In a regular pool, thousands of machines search together and split every reward: you receive small, regular amounts. Solo, you keep the whole block if your machine finds it (3.125 bitcoin, plus the transaction fees), and nothing otherwise.

With a small machine the odds are tiny on every draw, but not zero: it is a lottery, and small miners do sometimes win. On average, over time, solo and pool pay the same; solo only changes how it lands. I explain why in this video (in French).

2. Why FindMyBlock

  • Non-custodial. If your machine finds a block, the reward goes straight to your Bitcoin address, without passing through me.
  • Free. 0% fee.
  • For every machine, from a Bitaxe to rented hashrate.
  • Challenges and leaderboards to follow your best share and make the wait a little less quiet.

3. Settings

For a Bitaxe, the full walkthrough is in the guide Set up a Bitaxe.

4. Which address to use

An address from a wallet you hold the keys to: a hardware wallet or an app. Avoid exchange addresses: a block reward is a special kind of transaction that not every exchange handles.

5. Follow your odds

On findmyblock.xyz, enter your address: you see each machine’s hashrate and your best share, the attempt that came closest to finding a block.

To estimate your odds, the calculator on the home page works it out live with the real network hashrate.
