Bitaxe Gamma GT Turbo vs Bitaxe Gamma: which one?
The Gamma GT Turbo has two BM1370 chips instead of one: about twice the hashrate of a Gamma. In return it draws nearly three times the power, and its stock fan is loud. Here is the comparison, with figures from my review.

The difference in short
- Chips: one BM1370 in the Gamma, two in the GT, the same family as in the Antminer S21 Pro.
- Cooling: a 40 mm fan on the Gamma, 60 mm on the GT, to remove twice the heat.
- Software: AxeOS, open source, on both.
Efficiency and electricity
The Gamma runs at about 15 J/TH. The GT is around 21 to 22 J/TH, and that figure comes from its interface, which leaves out power supply losses: you pay for the hashrate in efficiency. Over a year at €0.20 per kWh, count about €32 of electricity for the Gamma and €88 for the GT.
Two Gammas do what one GT does, better: about 2.4 TH/s for 36 W. What the GT brings is a single box and a single machine to set up.
Noise
That is the GT’s weak spot. With its stock fan it ran at 55% and was very loud. A 60 mm Noctua, about twenty euros, fixes it: fan at 28%, almost silent, and 0.2 TH/s gained along the way.
Which one should you choose?
- The Gamma if you are starting out, or want the better efficiency of the two.
- The GT if you want the hashrate of two Gammas in one box, and swapping a fan does not scare you.
- Two Gammas if you are torn: same hashrate, better efficiency, and if one fails the other keeps going.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Bitaxe Gamma GT draw more power than the Gamma?
Yes, nearly three times as much: about 50 W with a Noctua fan, against about 18 W for a Gamma, for roughly twice the hashrate.
Should you replace the Gamma GT fan?
On my unit, yes: the stock fan was very loud. A 60 mm Noctua, about twenty euros, makes it almost silent and adds about 0.2 TH/s.
